ForwardUHD: Elder Abuse: Partnering to Protect-Connecting the Dots
Who would abuse an older adult? What issues does the elder population face on a daily basis? And what can we, as concerned citizens and professionals do to combat the unfortunate reality of abuse and mistreatment? Please join us on Friday, June 20th as the Region VI Adult Protective Services Advisory Board partners with UHD’s Service, Teaching, Aging, and Research (S.T.A.R.) lab to present a full day conference on issues related to Elder Abuse in our community. A wide variety of sessions will cover topics such as: Social Isolation, Self Care/Neglect, Exploitation, Medical Fraud, Elder Abuse, Depression, Social Security, Long Term Care, Dementia, and more.
Target Audience
This program is designed to help physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, and other health care professionals who are in a position to identity elder abuse/neglect and refer appropriately for services.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Identify situations with patients that may require additional support to prevent further patient harm or neglect physically, mentally or financially.
2. Demonstrate how to address potential elder abuse and neglect.
3. Synthesize information from multiple sources to help produce best possible patient outcomes.
