TAKE on HIV: 2026 Early Initiation of HIV Treatment

This continuing education activity consists of clinically focused HIV webinars developed to help strengthen the HIV clinical workforce. Led by expert faculty in HIV prevention, treatment, and care, the series is designed to address workforce shortages by increasing the knowledge, confidence, and practice readiness of primary care providers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals involved in caring for people with HIV (PWH). Participants will receive current, evidence-based education and CE credit opportunities while learning practical strategies to improve prevention, treatment, and discipline-specific management of HIV in clinical practice.

The second webinar in the series is Early Initiation of HIV Treatment, which will explore the impact of early initiation of HIV treatment affecting people with HIV.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and certified public health professionals. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity leaners should be able to:

  • Implement routine HIV testing guidelines in their clinical practice.
  • Describe the evidence supporting early HIV treatment initiation. 
  • Identify which antiretroviral therapy regimens are appropriate for early HIV treatment initiation and rapid restart. 
  • Develop and implement an early HIV treatment initiation program in their clinical practice.

Speaker:

Amanda Miller has worked at CentroMed, a Federally Qualified Health Center in San Antonio, TX, since 2014.  In her position she manages the primary care needs and HIV treatment of over 1,000 patients.  She was the first provider in San Antonio to prescribe PrEP on a large scale and in collaboration with her supervising physician, was a leader in early HIV treatment initiation in San Antonio.  Amanda is credentialed as an American Academy of HIV Medicine Specialist.  Prior to her PA education, Amanda worked in HIV and STI prevention for over 10 years.  She has a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Houston, a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.  Amanda has held leadership positions in the Bexar County PA Society and Texas Academy of Physician Assistants; and she was a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants Commission on the Health of the Public.
