Cheryl Martin, MD is board certified in Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine. Being ethnically Chinese-Taiwanese and African American required her from a young age to find a way to understand and navigate the complexities of a culturally divided world that shares a common humanity. Inspired by the wholistic practices passed from her maternal ancestors and an appreciation for connections to the earth passed from her paternal ancestors, she has been exploring the concept of health and care delivery for much of her life. Leading her to investigate opportunities in research and education in the history of Chinese Medicine through a terminal master’s degree in the Regional Studies: East Asia Program at Harvard University and training in the Whole Health Model through the Holistic Integrative Pluralistic (HIP) Fellowship at Greater Lawrence Family Health Center. She is now faculty in the Department of Family Medicine at BronxCare Health System, an FQHC which serves the poorest congressional district in the United States. As faculty, she has developed curriculum to teach medical students, residents, and allied health professionals about well-being, nutrition, culinary medicine, and the whole health model of care.

She is currently a board member of Integrative Medicine for the Underserved (IM4US), focusing on internal operations and member services as Membership Chair. She is a co-author of the IM4US foundational white paper on “Cultural Misappropriation in Integrative Health,” which was presented at the inaugural Traditional Medicine Global Summit hosted by the World Health Organization at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India in 2023. Since its unveiling, she has been part of a team developing and implementing curriculum teaching integrative fellowships methods for incorporating cultural humility into integrative health training. Dr. Martin is on the board examination writing team for the American Board of Integrative Medicine and conducts national conference presentations and workshops on various integrative health, food as medicine, and group medical visit topics yearly.
