Jacquelyn Alvarado, DNP, MHA, APRN, CNM, FACNM, C-EFM, C-OBE, C-ONQS

Dr. Jacquelyn Alvarado is a doctoral-prepared Certified Nurse-Midwife and nationally recognized leader in maternal health, patient safety, and rural healthcare innovation. She currently serves as Director of Rural Maternal Health at the Texas A&M Rural and Community Health Institute, where she leads statewide initiatives focused on obstetric emergency preparedness, workforce support, telehealth expansion, and systems-level quality improvement in rural and underserved communities.
With over 15 years of clinical experience and more than 1,000 births attended, Dr. Alvarado brings a frontline perspective to patient safety, bridging evidence-based practice with real-world implementation. Her work emphasizes simulation-based training for high-risk obstetric events, interdisciplinary team communication, and scalable safety strategies for settings with limited resources.
Dr. Alvarado is an AWHONN Obstetric Patient Safety (OPS) Instructor, a TexasAIM Implementation Mentor, and a Rural Health Fellow with the National Rural Health Association. She is also a Clinical Professor of Nurse-Midwifery and author of the forthcoming textbook Midwifery-Led Solutions: Delivering Change in Rural Healthcare. Her scholarship and advocacy focus on transforming maternal care delivery through innovation, collaboration, and sustainable safety solutions.
