Jake Gorges – Executive Director, Wisconsin Literacy, Inc.
Overview
Jake Gorges leads Wisconsin Literacy, Inc. (WL), a statewide coalition of community-based literacy and adult education agencies. Under his direction, WL strengthens literacy, health literacy, and digital equity across Wisconsin through training, advocacy, and partnerships.
Experience
Gorges has more than 15 years in adult education, beginning his career in Milwaukee and Racine, where he helped hundreds of adults earn high-school equivalency credentials. He later advanced into leadership roles focused on workforce development, digital skills, and health literacy. His leadership blends classroom insight with organizational strategy, building data-driven systems and collaborative programs statewide.
Education
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Adult Education from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

Since joining WL, Gorges has prioritized statewide collaboration and innovation. His work emphasizes:

Under his leadership, WL has been recognized by the Green Bay Packers at their 2024 Give Back Game for its contributions to literacy and community empowerment.

Gorges views literacy as “the doorway to the rich world of books, stories, and fresh knowledge.” He frames learning as both a personal act of empowerment and a community connector—an essential ingredient for opportunity and belonging in Wisconsin.
