Clayton Taylor, Sergeant Clay Taylor
Sergeant Clay Taylor began his law enforcement career with the Arlington Police Department in October 2006 after graduating from Texas State University with a degree in Criminal Justice.
As an officer, he served on Patrol, the department’s Hotspot Enforcement & Assistance Team (HEAT), and as a Robbery Unit detective. In 2016, he promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to APD’s West Patrol District where he supervised officers on day shift. He continued to serve in that capacity until April 2018, when he was assigned as the supervisor of the Robbery Unit. In 2021, the unit was expanded and re-branded as the Violent Crime Unit.
Sgt. Taylor is also an instructor at the department’s Basic Police Academy where he teaches courses on Arrest, Search, and Seizure, as well as CCP and Patrol Procedures.
He has received advanced training in tactics, interviews, interrogations, courtroom testimony, gang investigations, critical incidents, and supervisory leadership. He currently serves as a member of APD’s Awards Review Board, which oversees the recognition of department employees for outstanding and exemplary service.
When he’s not at work, Sgt. Taylor fully embraces his roles as a husband and father of three. He and his family enjoy visiting new places, attending sporting events, and spending quality time with family. He is also an avid outdoorsman and loves hunting and fishing.
As he looks to the future, Sgt. Taylor’s top personal goal is to be there for his family and continue to grow as a husband and father. Professionally, his priorities are to develop new leaders within the department and to help his detectives achieve their goals.
