Karen Silvestri is a registered nurse and healthcare leader with over 20 years of experience in patient safety, risk management, and quality improvement. She currently serves as the American Osteopathic Association’s Director of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Organization (AOA PSO), where she develops tools, education, and training to support osteopathic physicians in building safer, high-reliability care environments.

Prior to joining the AOA, Karen held several leadership roles at Rush University Medical Center, including Senior Risk Manager, Patient Safety and Process Improvement Specialist, and Healthcare Data Analyst. Her work focused on safety event management, quality data analysis, Joint Commission readiness, and leading cross-functional improvement initiatives across both inpatient and ambulatory settings.

Karen holds a Master of Science in Nursing with a Clinical Nurse Leader concentration from Rush University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University. She is a member of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management.
