Rebecca Tyrrell, RN-BC, CCCTM
Rebecca (Becky) Tyrrell comes to us from the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
She has been an RN for 38 years, twenty-one of those years has been with the Shock Trauma Center. She has served as a Case Manager in Trauma and developed the Home Discharge Coordination role. She has always been concerned about the aftercare of the trauma patient and those things that keep them from having a smooth recovery.
By 2012, the incentivizing of the Readmission Rate loomed. In 2014, Becky launched the Trauma Transitional Care Coordination Program. At the time, it was the first of its kind. This year, Trauma TCC celebrates its tenth year in operation. She shares the success of this program with her four TCC colleagues and her teammates of the Shock Trauma Outpatient Pavilion.
Becky has presented Trauma Transitional Care Coordination to the American Association for the Surgery in Trauma, the ANCC National Magnet Conference, Michigan TQIP, and the Society for Trauma Nursing TraumaCon.
Her greatest joy is watching the recovery continuum return a patient to independence; the” light-bulb moment” never gets old.
