Dr. Cohen received her undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania, where she focused her studies on medical anthropology and human evolution. She went on to medical training at Hahnemann University Hospital School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Cohen continued her specialist training in rheumatology and autoimmune diseases at Montefiore Hospital/Albert Einstein University Hospital in the Bronx, New York. Dr. Cohen is currently in private practice in Princeton, New Jersey. Her practice, Integrative Rheumatology Associates P.C., founded in 2011, focuses on both traditional western medical management of rheumatologic ailments, as well as integrative options for total “wellness”, such as biofeedback, acupuncture, cognitive therapy, diet and exercise counseling, environmental toxin counseling, smoking cessation, stress management, and sleep evaluations.
Dr. Cohen is trained in medical acupuncture from the Helms Institute at UCLA and Integrative Medicine and Environmental Medicine from Dr. Andrew Weil and the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. In 2012, she was honored as the recipient of the Jones/Lovell Rheumatology Scholarship at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine in Tucson, Arizona, and she continues to work alongside Dr. Andrew Weil and his colleagues in the field of integrative medicine. Dr. Cohen regularly lectures on reducing exposure to environmental toxins, improving diet, and other integrative medicine topics and techniques to her patients, schools, summer camps, medical training programs, and the community. She is a published medical author and editor, legal medical expert, and also creates environmental health curricula for schools and physician training programs, such as the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine, Southern California University of Health Sciences, and the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Instituteat the University of California, Irvine.
Dr Aly Cohen is the co-author of the, bestselling, consumer guidebook, Non-Toxic: Guide to Living Healthy in a Chemical World, Non-Toxic, published by Oxford University Press, and part of the Dr. Weil Healthy Living Guides. Her new book will be available on Amazon in June 2024 and will connect the dots between everyday chemicals and the epidemic rise in immune disorders and autoimmune disease...and what we can all do about it! Dr. Aly Cohen is triple board-certified in rheumatology, internal medicine, and integrative medicine, as well as an environmental health expert in Princeton, New Jersey. She studied at the University of Pennsylvania, where she focused her studies on medical anthropology and human evolution - topics that have greatly influenced her work. She is on faculty of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM)and the Integrative and Functional Medicine Fellowship of the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute (SSIHI) at the University of California, Irvine, where she created and manages the environmental medicine curriculum for medical colleagues. Dr. Cohen has collaborated with the Environmental Working Group, Cancer Schmancer, and other disease- prevention organizations, and is coeditor of the textbook, Integrative Environmental Medicine, part of the Oxford University Press/Weil Integrative Medicine, Academic Series. In 2015, she created TheSmartHuman.com to share environmental health, disease prevention, and wellness information with the public. She lectures nationally on environmental health topics for elementary/ high schools, colleges/ universities, medical schools, and physician- training programs, and she is a regular expert guest for television, print, and podcasts. She is a legal medical expert for toxic tort environmental exposure cases. She has been the recipient of countless awards, including Top Docs NJ in rheumatology from 2016-2024, Top Docs New York Magazine 2024, Top Docs Philadelphia and New York Magazines 2024, Exceptional Women in Medicine 2020-2024, the NJ Healthcare Heroes Award in Education for The Smart Human educational platform in 2015, and the 2016 Burton L. Eichler Award for humanitarianism. Dr. Cohen is working to educate and empower the next generation to make safer, smarter lifestyle choices through the creation of environmental health and prevention curricula for schools nationally.
