Preparing to Teach Online - DAI 2025-2027
Overview
This required self-paced course introduces faculty to the fundamentals of online course design and delivery at UNT Health. Participants gain practical skills for developing effective online learning experiences and become familiar with the Quality Matters (QM) Higher Education Rubric to ensure courses meet nationally recognized standards of quality. Transitioning to teaching online can be a challenge for faculty who previously only taught in face-to-face formats (Frass, Rucker, & Washington, 2017). Educational research indicated that professional development is a key to success for faculty members, but such opportunities have been insufficient in most higher education institutions, while most trainings were centered in the use of technology or tools with little focus on the pedagogy of online teaching (Lane, 2013). Through informal surveys and conversations, the DAI identified the needs of better preparing faculty for online teaching with more emphasis on exploring online pedagogies and QM standards.
