JPS Emergency Department: FY26 AMA and Med Mal-Nuanced Topics on Patient Safety
Two-hour program on patient safety strategies for the emergency department.
Target Audience
Physician and physician residents who practice in the Emergency Department at JPS Health Network.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Demonstrate a detailed plan for patients who are leaving against medical advice;
- Identify how to adequately provide follow up, next steps, and allow for the most optimal treatment plan that the patient will allow;
- Illustrate how to safely evaluate patients who can leave against medical advice, and confirm that they have capacity to do so; and
- Define the risk of litigation, what increases the risk, how to deal with litigation, and how to not have significant life difficulties after being named in a suit
