HSCCP: 2024-26 Keep the Fire Burning: A Guide for Preceptor Well-being

Pharmacist preceptor burnout is a significant concern within the field of pharmacy education, and addressing this issue is crucial for maintaining the quality of pharmacy training programs and ensuring the well-being of both preceptors and students. Research has shown that a significant proportion of pharmacy preceptors experience burnout symptoms, which may include emotional exhaustion, depersonalization (cynicism or detachment from work), and reduced personal accomplishment. Factors contributing to burnout in pharmacy preceptors include heavy workloads, time constraints, administrative responsibilities, and the pressure to meet educational goals. Evidence-based strategies focused on well-being and resilience can help preceptors manage stress, prevent burnout, and provide a more positive and effective learning environment for pharmacy students.

This activity will outline the current landscape of well-being/burnout/resilience in the pharmacy profession and provide individualized, evidence-based strategies for preceptors to implement.
