Dementia Fundamentals for Healthcare Professionals, Center for Older Adults
This training is designed to provide an overview of the fundamentals of dementia and evidence-based ways to identify and manage the disease, as well as communicate effectively with patients and their families/caregivers.
Target Audience
This activity is for physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and social workers.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Distinguish between normal aging and the signs and symptoms of dementia.
- Review approaches to assess for cognitive impairment or dementia severity in older adults
- Identify behavioral and functional changes that can occur with dementia progression.
- Discuss strategies for management of dementia-related symptoms and changes.
- Evaluate patient-centered techniques and strategies to improve the quality of life for persons with dementia.
