AIHM-FIWH 132: Introduction to Integrative Pain Management
Welcome to this module on pain management. Here, we will introduce integrative pain management by really looking at the complexity of pain and its connection to the brain and nervous system. Chronic pain, unlike acute pain, often stems from changes in how the nervous system processes pain signals. We'll explore the physiological changes associated with pain, including inflammation, and examine the role of healthcare providers in educating patients about the nature of pain. Through this discussion, you'll gain the tools to apply evidence-informed integrative strategies for pain management.
We will also be exploring the critical role of movement and fascia in managing pain, motor coordination, and overall health within the framework of integrative medicine. You will learn to recognize inefficient movement patterns and understand when to refer patients to movement-trained practitioners, while also deepening your knowledge of fascia’s influence on proprioception and biomechanical behavior. Additionally, we will cover how to safely incorporate regenerative therapies and integrative approaches into patient care to optimize health outcomes.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and social workers.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this module, you will be able to:

- Differentiate between the perception of pain and actual harm.
- Apply evidence-based pain principles with the goal of decreasing pain.
- Recognize inefficient movement and refer patients to movement-trained practitioners as appropriate.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the role of fascia in pain, proprioception, motor coordination, and biomechanical behavior.
- Share ability to incorporate regenerative therapies into patient care as suitable and safe for individuals.
