HSCCP: 2021-24 A Multimodal Approach to Pain Management
Pain Management has evolved significantly in recent years, emphasizing the multimodal approaches over traditional opioid prescribing. The multimodal approaches to pain management consists of using treatments from more than one clinical discipline incorporated into the treatment plan. It may include, complementary and integrative approaches, restorative therapies, behavioral health approaches, and medication that may include both opioids and non-opioids. This activity will focus on these multimodal approaches and how they can be integrated effectively to achieve better patient outcomes.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
Learning Objectives
When you complete this module, you will be able to:
- Discuss non pharmacologic therapies and non-opioid medications for treating chronic pain.
- Describe clinical best practices and multimodal approaches to pain management.
- Given a patient case, design a treatment plan for pain management.
