Robert Slater, MD, MPH

Rob Slater is an Associate Professor at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Slater is board-certified in family medicine (ABFM) and integrative medicine (ABOIM); he earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin, his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and his Master’s in Public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health. Dr. Slater completed his residency training in family medicine at Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program in Houston, Texas. Following this, he completed a fellowship in Integrative and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, then became an assistant professor at UTMB.
In 2019, Dr. Slater joined the newly-founded osteopathic medical school at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) to help develop their medical curriculum. Dr. Slater served as Unit Director for GI, Nutrition, and Appetite (GNA / Unit 5) and Circulation, Respiration, and Regulation (CRR / Unit 6), and in 2020, he became co-lead of the Developing Osteopathic Clinical Skills (DOCS) program and designed a comprehensive, interactive curriculum for Medical Interviewing, Documentation & Communication, Physical Examination, Clinical Reasoning, Physician Personhood, and Simulation. In addition to enthusiastically incorporating integrative and behavioral health and medicine into the formal curriculum at UIW-SOM, Dr. Slater is also the director of the Integrative Gastroenterology course of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM) Fellowship. He also develops and reviews questions for COMLEX Level 1, Level 2-CE, and Level 3 with the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME).
