Jayagopal Parla, BAMS, MD (Ayurveda), MAOM, C-IAYT, FAIHM
Jayagopal Parla is an educator, clinician, and internationally recognized speaker in the fields of Ayurvedic medicine and yoga therapy. With over two decades of experience, he brings a deep, integrative understanding of traditional medicine, rooted in classical Ayurvedic knowledge.
He holds a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) from Bangalore University and a Doctor of Medicine in Ayurveda (MD–Ayu), specializing in herbal medicine, from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in India. His passion for ethnobotany led him to spend time in rural India, studying local and tribal healing practices and gaining practical insights into plant-based medicine. This curiosity expanded into Chinese medicine, and he completed a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Southern California University of Health Sciences.
Jayagopal is also a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT), having trained at the Bihar School of Yoga, and recently completed a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine, further deepening his interdisciplinary approach to health.
He is the Founder and Director of the Athreya Ayurvedic Integrative Health Center in Long Beach, California, and Founder and Vice President of Athreya Herbs, a U.S.-based provider of high-quality Ayurvedic herbal products. He serves as teaching faculty at SCU and also provides clinical care at the university health center, and teaches at multiple Ayurvedic institutions across the U.S. He also serves as visiting faculty at the Japan School of Ayurvedic Medicine.
He has presented papers at national and international conferences and continues to work toward the global advancement of Ayurveda. His mission is to inspire individuals and communities to embrace Ayurveda and yoga as practical, life-enhancing systems for longevity, prevention, and optimal well-being.
