Ravi Hirekatur, MD

Ravi Hirekatur obtained his undergraduate degree from Bhopal University, India, in Mechanical Engineering. He obtained his master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Kansas State University. He worked as an Industrial Systems Engineer for a total of 5 years. After reading Deepak Chopra’s book Quantum Healing, he was inspired to become a physician with an intention to become a holistic physician and obtained his medical education from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Ravi grew up in a household that practiced Ayurvedic lifestyle and has been a lifelong student of it and studied under Dr. Vasant Lad of Ayurvedic Institute. He certified in both ABIHM and ABOIM. He recently formalized his integrative health education with a fellowship at the Osher Center at The University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is currently serving as Co-Director of the Integrative Health Fellowship program. He also works as a float physician in primary care in addition to doing consults in integrative health.
Ravi’s interests include Ayurveda, Marma therapy, herbal medicine, and collaborative work. He has a strong meditative practice in Vipassana meditation for over 3 decades. His other interests include nature photography, cooking and gardening. Many of his nature photographs and articles on photography have appeared in several nature photography magazines. He lives with his wife and two children in Madison, WI.
