Mandie Svatek, Associate Professor, Pediatrics; Pediatric Hospitalist; MD

Dr. Mandie Tibball Svatek, is an Associate Professor with UT Health San Antonio in the Department of Pediatrics and a Pediatric hospitalist at University Health in San Antonio. Through her 20 years of practice, her passion developed to help children with asthma. She is a quality improvement leader and chair of the South Texas Asthma Coalition (STAC). She has helped lead several asthma summits educating on the challenges of asthma faced by many South Texas residents. With this, Dr. Svatek was successful in leading STAC’s effort to obtain support from the City of San Antonio for a no cost program for high-risk children in which she now serves as the Medical Advisor for San Antonio Metropolitan Health District’s Program - SA Kids BREATHE and chairs the advisory council for this team. She has also worked towards implementing an asthma registry within University Health for outreach to high-risk children with asthma to provide education and resources. She serves on the Texas Department of State and Health Services SEAC Committee to assist with unassigned albuterol in schools and has now been selected as chair of the committee. Through her leadership in quality improvement, advocacy and educating, Dr. Svatek learned that medicine goes beyond healing the sick in the hospital and that we must intervene in their community setting to improve overall health and wellness of the child.
