Brenda Barajas-Koch, Master of Arts in Women's & Gender Studies
Brenda Barajas-Koch has worked as a Prevention Education Specialist for The Women’s Center of Tarrant County since 2020. As a champion of feminist causes, her work promotes gender equity initiatives through community education, especially among the diverse Latine populations of North Texas. More broadly, she seeks to close the health, safety, and wellness gaps that plague many of the neighborhoods and towns that comprise the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area. Brenda’s activism promotes cultural humility as a culmination of the spectrum of cultural competency, and she is passionate about deconstructing assumptions of gender socialization. Prior to her current position, Brenda worked as a liaison between the Mexican Consulate in Dallas and the University of North Texas’s Office of Outreach via the Ventanilla de Orientación Educativa program, promoting educational opportunities for the Consulate’s constituent populations of the Dallas/Fort Worth region and collaborating with area school districts and colleges. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a Master of Arts in Women’s & Gender Studies, both from the University of North Texas, and has additionally completed extensive graduate coursework in education and Spanish from Long Island University and Brooklyn College.
