Garrick Gaffney, DO, MA

Dr. Garrick Gaffney is a 3rd year psychiatric resident who serves as one of the academic chiefs at JPS. His remarkable journey began at 17 when he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving as an infantry scout. Completing a combat deployment to Iraq between 2008-09, Dr. Gaffney was honored with prestigious accolades, including a Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, recognizing his exceptional service.
His exposure to mental health challenges kindled a passion that drove him to pursue a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and a Masters in Bioethics at Kansas City University. His desire to gain firsthand experience from one of the busiest psychiatric departments in the nation lead him to JPS. Here, Dr. Gaffney diligently works to develop innovative curricula and find new methods of teaching psychiatry to students and residents. A frequent presenter at various conferences, Dr. Gaffney holds a special interest in complex and treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders.
Outside his professional lives, he takes immense joy in his roles as a husband and the father of four amazing children. In his leisure time, he treasures moments spent with his family, especially when immersed in the grandeur of the great outdoors.
