Anne Hulzing is a Patient Safety Specialist with the Office of Quality and Patient Safety at The Joint Commission, and manages the activities associated with The Joint Commission’s review and response to patient safety complaints. As a Sentinel Event Specialist, Ms. Hulzing collaborates with the team members of Joint Commission accredited health care organizations to ensure a thorough and credible Root Cause Analysis, provides feedback on the strength of action and measurement to reduce/mitigate risk of reoccurrences, and advises on iterative action planning to help organizations achieve their goals.
Prior to joining The Joint Commission, Ms. Hulzing served as the Market Patient Safety Program Manager for Ascension Texas overseeing 13 hospitals, and System Administrator of the event reporting system for more than 300 Texas hospitals and clinic locations. She facilitated the market-level Patient Safety Committee, and the Quality and Patient Safety Committee of the Board of Directors. She has extensive nursing experience in critical care, including clinical management and education.
Ms. Hulzing is an active member of American Nurses Association, Texas Nurses Association, Texas Organization of Nursing Leadership, Commission for Nursing Reimbursement, and Nursing is STEM coalition.
Ms. Hulzing earned her Master of Science in Leadership and Change from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Pace University in Pleasantville, NY. She is a Certified Patient Safety Specialist and a Healthcare Accreditation Certified Professional. She also has a green belt in Lean Six Sigma, and is a subject matter expert on High Reliability Organization principles and Just Culture.
