Shalice McKnight, DO
Dr. McKnight is a practicing Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist with over a decade of experience, She has deep expertise developing and leading school-based mental health service programs; and integrative and collaborative care programs across private, institutional and community programs. She is gifted and passionate about healing the minds, bodies, and spirits of those navigating debilitating mental health disorders through purpose/identity work, creativity, and psychoeducation.
She has provided direct care and led programs in some of the largest hospital systems and school districts in the country, the DOD and other community organizations. These experiences enabled Dr. McKnight to develop a unique perspective on the current mental health crisis that families are facing with their children and adolescents. Families aren't getting the support they so desperately need, and they feel helpless as they navigate the complexities of our schools and health systems. Through every modality of care our children are in crisis, and our community (e.g. teachers, mentors, churches and even primary care health system) is overextended and overworked due to the shortage of CAP psychiatrists.
Dr. McKnight recognizes that this desperation is ongoing for far too many of her patients and their families and it was from here that the Lighthouse of Frisco was birthed. With our nation and the state of Texas in a state of national emergency due to the mental health crisis, Dr. McKnight is excited to make a difference within her community by providing:
• Strategic consulting for organizations that provide program and services to children & adolescents
• Training for non-medical, front-line youth workers (e.g. mentors and school-related, non-profit and church administrators/staff, residential facility employees, etc.) on resources, risk factor identification, parent rights, etc.
• Learning experiences / didactics (half-day or series) for medical and other mental health professionals
• Facilitated wellness support groups
• Consult services for primary care providers, churches and non-profit organizations
