CHW Introduction to C.L.A.S. Standards - 2022-24

Healthy People 2020 and the Joint Commission mandate that patients and people, in general, receive healthcare information in a manner that they can understand. The CLAS Standards, adopted by Texas, provide insight into the disparities that exist as a result of language and cultural barriers. The CLAS Standards also provide solutions regarding mitigating these disparities through the use of health literacy practices and cultural humility. This training lays out the standards and best practices to improve healthcare communication and therefore, improve; understanding and outcomes.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for physicians, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, licensed professional counselors, physical therapists, public health professionals, psychologists, and social workers.

 

Learning Objectives

When you complete this module, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the historical context of CLAS.
  2. Recognize cultural differences experienced. 
  3. Differentiate between equality and equity.
  4. Explain the value of implementing CLAS Standards.
  5. Integrate CLAS Standards into your professional practice.
