As an accredited provider, The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth may award AOA Category 1-A to physician faculty to recognize the learning associated with the formal delivery of medical education lectures to students, interns, residents, fellow, and staff. We may also award AOA Category 1-B for the formal teaching of medical students and residents/fellows in ACGME/COCA accredited facilities/programs as GME/UME core faculty, faculty, or preceptor. 

REQUIREMENTS: Designating and awarding credit for participation in the live activity teaching medical students and residents:

AOA Category 1-A

  • Physician faculty may be awarded credit based on a 1-to-1 ratio to teaching time. For example: faculty may be awarded 1.0 AOA Category 1-A for 1 hour spent teaching or 1.5 AOA Category 1-A for 1 hour and 30 minutes spent teaching. Credits should be rounded to the nearest one-quarter credit. 
  • AOA Category 1-A for DO physicians should only be awarded for teaching that is verified by the UME and/or GME office.
  • Faculty may not receive credit more than once for the same time period, even if the audience involves residents and students from more than 1 program, being verified by 2 or more different LCME/ACGME programs. CME credits will not be awarded for preparation of lectures.

AOA Category 1-B: (UME/GME Faculty and Preceptors)

  • Physician faculty may be awarded credit based on 1-to-1 ratio. For example: faculty may be awarded 1.0 AOA Category 1-B for 1 hour spent precepting or 1.5 AOA Category 1-B for 1 hour and 30 minutes spent precepting.
  • Physician educator working in an ACGME-accredited graduate medical education program or COCA-accredited undergraduate medical education program as: GME/UME Core Faculty, Faculty, or Preceptor. 
  • No credit will be awarded for precepting physician assistants or nurse practitioners. 

Accreditation
The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to award continuing medical education to physicians. 

Designation
The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1A CME credits for each 1 hour spent teaching in formal, face-to-face programs, or interactive online programs, and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in the activity. 

The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1B CME credits for each 1 hour spent working in an ACGME-accredited graduate medical education prgram or a COCA-accredited undergraduate medical education program as: core faculty, faculty or preceptor and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in the activity.
