Revamp Your Approach: Insights in Pain Psychology

October 17, 2024

This FREE continuing education course provides healthcare providers with an in-depth exploration of pain psychology and its critical role in improving patient outcomes. Participants will engage in interprofessional discussions centered on person-centered, collaborative approaches that empower patients through education on the physiology and psychology of pain. A key focus will be on evaluating personal beliefs and values regarding the inclusion of patients, families, and communities as active members of the healthcare team. In addition, providers will reflect on their own attitudes, biases, and behaviors that may impede optimal care, particularly the impact of stigma on their ability to educate patients about pain psychology effectively. The course will present evidence-based strategies demonstrating how educating patients on both the psychological and physiological aspects of pain can significantly improve outcomes. Providers will also gain practical approaches to overcoming common misperceptions of patient pain, such as the belief that it is "all in their head."
