  1. Explain the increasing impact of alcohol and substance use in the general population and importance of addressing in primary care.
  2. Discuss how to screen and assess a patient for substance use and treatment placement.
  3. Identify the basic motivational interviewing and pharmacologic intervention to reduce or eliminate use and reduce the risk of harm.
