Understanding Alzheimers Diseases and Related Dementias

The purpose of the Dementia Specialist Certification project is to provide education and support to direct care healthcare professionals. Certificate training will be offered through asynchronous modules housed on an advanced learning management system supplemented by synchronous virtual training sessions. Training will meet the State of Texas training requirements for nursing home annual dementia training hours and assisted living dementia training for newly hired direct care and supportive care employees. To support career advancement, training will also be expanded so that learners can progress across three levels of specialization. This project charter is for Course 1 and 2 of this 8 course project. The course titles are: 1: Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease & Related Dementias 2: What to Expect and Person-Centered Approaches at Each Stage Each course will be approximately 1 hour long.

What to Expect & Person-Centered Approaches at Each Stage of Dementia

The Dementia Specialist Certification (DCS) curriculum is comprised of eight modules to expand knowledge, skills and confidence, and support career advancement across three levels of specialization. This curriculum will also meet the State of Texas training requirements for nursing home annual dementia training hours and assisted living dementia training for newly hired direct care and supportive care employees. What to Expect & Person-Centered Approaches at Each Stage, will provide a better understanding of the common characteristics and changes that are presented at each stage of dementia, and person-centered approaches to care that focus on quality of life.
