Overview

The purpose of the project is to train the current nursing home workforce to integrate best practices in the management and treatment of older adults living in nursing homes impacted by COVID-19 and to provide value-based care that improves health outcomes for nursing home residents. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted professional practice gaps not only related to the pandemic response, but the need to improve emergency preparedness in all areas.

Series Objectives

Upon completion of this activity leaners should be able to:

  • Review regulatory requirements for nursing facilities related to emergency preparedness.
  • Discuss real world applications of the facility emergency preparedness plan.
  • Identify mental health needs during times of crisis and how to provide support.
  • Discuss accommodations to emergency preparedness procedures to support persons living with dementia
  • Describe approaches for sheltering in place contrasted with evacuation for natural disasters.
  • Describe actions to take when confronted with an active shooter and responding to law enforcement officials.
  • Demonstrate infection prevention and control procedures for unanticipated infectious disease outbreaks.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for physicians, nurses, social workers, and licensed professional counselors.
