Session Learning Objectives
Those attending this session will receive information that should allow them to:
- Describe the physiologic principles of Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) and explain how EIT provides real-time visualization of regional lung ventilation at the bedside;
- Identify mechanisms of ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) and patient self-inflicted lung injury (P-SILI), including how EIT can detect harmful ventilation patterns such as pendelluft and regional overdistension;
- Demonstrate how EIT can be used to guide individualized mechanical ventilation strategies, including assessment of regional ventilation distribution, asynchrony detection, positioning, and PEEP titration;
- Review current clinical evidence supporting EIT-guided ventilation and discuss its potential impact on oxygenation, lung protection, patient outcomes, and ICU management.
