Session Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to: 

  • Restate the rules of confidentiality related to psychiatric treatment.  
  • Define the concept of therapeutic boundaries.
  • Discuss risk factors that can predispose to a therapeutic boundary violation in treatment. 
  • Explain the appropriate documentation needed for psychiatric treatment encounters.
  • Define the ethical dilemmas that can occur related to safety for the patient and the patient's community.
