Jordan Smelley, Mental Health Peer Specialist(MHPS)

Jordan Smelley is an internationally recognized and award-winning speaker on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), mental health recovery, and systems change. He is a certified Mental Health Peer Support Specialist, a certified People Planning Together Trainer, and the developer of the ASSUME a Sensory Reason™ framework.
Drawing from both professional expertise and lived experience, Jordan helps educators, healthcare professionals, employers, and community leaders better understand neurodiversity, sensory processing, recovery, and person-centered supports. He currently serves as the first IDD Peer Support Specialist for the Transition Support Team at Integral Care in Austin TX.
Jordan was named Among the Top 10 Leading Men of 2026 by MSN.com, the 2025 Mental Health Professional of the Year (awarded in 2026) by personsoftheyear.com and is also the recipient of the 2023 AAIDD Texas Chapter Empowerment Award and the 2024 AAIDD Texas Chapter Dr. Ollie Seay Knowledge Award.
Through keynote presentations, professional trainings, and systems-level advocacy, Jordan helps organizations create more inclusive environments by demonstrating that disability does not define potential—support does.
