Session Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to: 

  • Identify the fundamental values of freedom, independence, and mobility crucial for older adults living alone. 
  • Discuss strategies and considerations for enhancing home safety to promote a higher quality of life and reduce risks. 
  • Identify and evaluate appropriate living environments that balance autonomy with necessary support for older adults. 
  • Explore the ethical implications of decision-making regarding driving privileges and its impact on older adults' independence and community engagement. 
  • Incorporate the four pillars of medical ethics (autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice) into the discussion to guide ethical decision-making processes effectively.
