The term “population health” is the new catchall buzz word of the 21st century. Both individually and institutionally, population health is defined on an ad hoc basis, often slanted by the defining person’s interests and adding confusion to a discussion where clarity is essential. “Population Health: Healthy Child 2020” is intended to provide a construct that may be useful in discussing this important issue, a model for arriving at functional definition(s) and a survey of the early results from a suite of community-based interventions. In combination, these elements provide a framework for enhancing the pool of common knowledge about population health.
